Welcome back to The Standard Edit, your weekly inside look at what’s happening at You. The Standard, what we're seeing in clinic, the treatments and products worth knowing about, and the advice we'd give you if you were sitting in front of us.
This week we're looking at what summer may have been doing to your skin, the beauty trend we're very happy to see growing, why we're talking about facial muscles as well as skin, and the Mesoestetic product we'd put on your radar if pigmentation is beginning to show after summer.

Clinic News
Gemma's Bringing Something Different to You.
This week we're shining the spotlight on our lovely Gemma and the growing holistic side of You. The Standard.
We spend a lot of time talking about skin transformations, advanced technology and results, but looking after yourself doesn't always need to involve correcting something.
Sometimes you just need an hour where nobody wants anything from you.
Gemma is a massage specialist and provides some of our massage treatments, bringing a wonderfully holistic approach to the clinic and giving our clients the opportunity to properly switch off. Whether you're carrying tension, feeling exhausted or simply overdue some uninterrupted time for yourself, your massage can be tailored around what your body needs.
And because we know how often massage gets placed on the “I'll book that soon” list, we're giving you a little push.
Book it.
Your diary will always find another job to fill the space.
Seasonal Skin
The Tan Will Fade. The Sun Damage Might Not.
August is when we start preparing for one of our busiest skin periods of the year.
Because while your skin might currently look glowing and sun-kissed, what happens when the tan disappears?
For some clients, that's when pigmentation suddenly looks more obvious. Existing patches appear darker, the complexion looks less even and skin can begin to feel dehydrated, dull or textured after months of UV exposure, heat, holidays and changes to normal routines.
This is why now is the time to start planning your post-summer skin strategy.
Rather than throwing aggressive treatments at the skin, we want to understand what we're dealing with first.
Our advanced skin scanner can help us look beyond what is immediately visible and build a clearer picture of your skin. From there, we can decide whether your autumn programme should include professional skincare, peels, microneedling, advanced technology or a carefully planned combination.
Don't wait until October and then decide you want your summer pigmentation gone by Friday.
Great skin is planned.

Beauty Trend Of The Week
The Nail Appointment Is Becoming an Experience Again
Fast beauty has dominated for years.
Quick appointments. High turnover. In, out, next.
But we're seeing clients increasingly move in the opposite direction.
They want someone who remembers how they like their nails. They want meticulous preparation. They want time to choose their colour, discuss their nail art and actually enjoy the appointment.
And we're completely here for it.
Our lovely Annie is an absolute master of nails and nail art, but what makes the appointment special isn't simply the finished set.
It's the experience.
There is no conveyor belt of clients waiting behind you and no feeling that you need to hurry up and choose.
Whether you're a classic neutral girl or the person who arrives with twelve screenshots and an elaborate nail-art plan, the appointment is yours.
Luxury beauty is becoming slower, more personal and more considered, and we don't think that's a trend that's going anywhere.
Product Spotlight
Post-Summer Pigmentation? Meet Mesoestetic Melan Tran3x
If there is one skin concern we're preparing to hear much more about over the coming weeks, it's pigmentation.
And one of the Mesoestetic products we want you to know about is Melan Tran3x Concentrate.
Designed for concerns around uneven pigmentation, it can be incorporated into a targeted professional homecare programme where appropriate.
The important words there are where appropriate.
Pigmentation isn't one single condition. Different types of pigmentation behave differently, and blindly buying every product with “brightening” written on the bottle can leave you with an expensive bathroom cabinet and very little change in your skin.
This is exactly why we work with professional skincare.
We don't want to sell you the latest product.
We want to identify what your skin needs and recommend products that have a genuine role within your treatment plan.
If pigmentation appears when your summer tan fades, come and talk to us before you start experimenting.
Ask Emalene
“Why Does My Face Look Like It's Dropping Even Though I Look After My Skin?”
Because facial ageing isn't purely about the skin.
We can spend a fortune on skincare and still notice changes in facial definition over time because ageing happens at several levels.
Skin quality changes. Collagen and elastin decline. Fat distribution changes. Facial muscles play a role and deeper structural changes affect the way the face looks.
This is why I don't believe in treating ageing with one blanket solution.
For one person, improving skin quality may make the biggest difference. Another might benefit from carefully placed injectables. For somebody else, technology that works with the facial muscles could become part of the plan.
It's one of the reasons I'm excited about our FaceStim.
It gives us another option for clients concerned about facial tone and definition, particularly those who don't necessarily want to jump straight into injectables.
My philosophy hasn't changed:
Restoration. Not augmentation.
The best treatment isn't the newest treatment or the most expensive one.
It's the one that's right for your face.
— Emalene

Skin Myth Of The Week
“If I Have Injectables, I Don't Need to Worry About My Skin.”
Absolutely false.
Beautiful filler sitting underneath neglected skin is still neglected skin.
Injectables and skin treatments do completely different jobs.
We can restore areas of lost volume, soften particular lines or use injectables strategically to create subtle changes, but they cannot replace healthy, well-managed skin.
If your concerns include pigmentation, texture, enlarged pores, dehydration, sun damage or general skin quality, repeatedly adding injectables isn't going to solve them.
This is why our approach is increasingly about whole-face treatment planning rather than looking at one line, one wrinkle or one treatment in isolation.
You can have beautifully performed injectables.
You can have exceptional skin.
The two should complement each other.
Behind The Scenes
Why Does You. The Standard Have So Many Different Machines?
Because one machine cannot treat every concern.
We could have chosen a much simpler treatment menu.
Instead, we've invested in technology including our skin scanner and a full range of advanced skin and body devices because different concerns require different approaches.
But having lots of machines isn't impressive by itself.
Knowing which one to use is.
Behind every treatment programme is a decision-making process: what are we trying to improve, what is causing the concern, which modality is most appropriate, what should we combine it with and , importantly, what should we leave alone?
Technology should never replace practitioner knowledge.
It should give a knowledgeable practitioner more options to achieve a better result.
That's the difference.
Client Question Of The Week
“I Want to Improve My Face, But I Don't Want Filler. What Are My Options?”
More than you probably realise.
This is one of the reasons we're talking about FaceStim this week.
Depending on what is actually bothering you, we can look at skin treatments, professional skincare, injectables and advanced facial technology, including treatments designed to address different aspects of facial ageing.
And sometimes, after consultation, we may tell you that filler would produce the result you're describing, but that doesn't mean you have to have it.
A consultation isn't a commitment to treatment.
It's an opportunity to understand why you're seeing the changes you're seeing and what your realistic options are.
If you've been avoiding an aesthetics consultation because you're worried you'll immediately be told you need filler everywhere, you've probably been talking to the wrong clinic.
Looking Ahead
September Skin Starts in August
Autumn is one of our favourite times in the clinic because it marks the return of serious skin season.
Clients come back from holidays, routines return to normal and suddenly those concerns that were hidden underneath a summer glow become much more noticeable.
Pigmentation. Sun damage. Dehydration. Texture. Ageing.
So we're getting ahead of it.
If you know that improving your skin is on your autumn list, don't wait for autumn to start thinking about it.
Book your skin consultation now. Let us assess where your skin is, discuss what you'd like to achieve and start planning the treatments and homecare that will take you through the next few months.
And if your August priorities are less about skin transformation and more about booking a massage with Gemma, fresh nails with Annie and disappearing from the world for a few hours...
We can help with that too.
